Cobras Open 2004 Home Schedule In Style

CHARLOTTE – The Eastern Division leading Carolina Cobras will open their 2004 home campaign against the Arizona Rattlers this Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Charlotte Coliseum. Fans in attendance will not only be treated to the fast-paced offensive fireworks of the Arena Football League, but also a total entertainment experience that spans far beyond the players on the field.

Following is an inside look into what fans will be treated to in the home opener:

· A helftime performance by country music star and national recording artist Jimmy Wayne, who will also perform the national anthem prior to the opening kickoff.

· WSOC-FM personality Jeff Roper as on-field emcee throughout the contest.

· Ceremonial coin toss featuring newly-elected NFL Hall of Famer Joe DeLamielleure.

· Explosive pyrotechnics and video display in a wildly entertaining player introduction ceremony.

· Personal greetings at the Coliseum entrances by the Cobras official dance team, the Snake Charmers, and mascot, King Cobra.

· Pregame autograph session with selected Cobras players and Snake Charmers

· Free face painting on the concourse for everyone in attendance.

· Live entertainment by the Snake Charmers dance team prior to and throughout the game.

· Cobras Crew promotional team that will participate in a variety of events and contests on the field and in the stands.

· The Charlotte debut of the AFL's sleek, redesigned game ball, produced by Spalding.

· Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to take home any football that reaches the stands as a souvenir. In the 17-year history of the league, over 11,000 footballs have gone home with lucky AFL fans.

· Players, coaches and dance team members will remain on the field for a 30-minute postgame autograph session.

The action on the field will feature:

· A 2-0 Cobras squad looking to remain atop the Eastern Division and vying for the first 3-0 start in team history.

· Head Coach Eddie Khayat, a veteran of 42 seasons of professional football, including 35 years as a player and coach in the NFL. Khayat was member of the 1960 World Champion Philadelphia Eagles squad.

· Offensive Coordinator John Gregory, a two-time AFL Coach of the Year and one of the finest offensive minds in league history.

· Quarterback Matt Nagy, the AFL's Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week after a seven touchdown performance in the Cobras' season-opening victory at Dallas.

· Defensive specialist Damon Mason, a three-time All-Arena performer, who holds three of the top four single-season tackle totals in league history.

· Former Nashville Kats and Georgia Force standouts WR/DB Jarrick Hillery and FB/LB Travis Reece.

· 10-year veteran and former AFL Lineman of the Year Robert Stewart.

· Charlotte-area products DeAngelo Lloyd and Troy Pelshak. Lloyd is a former Parade All-American from Independence High and Pelshak spent two season with the NFL's St. Louis Rams following a successful career at Garinger High and North Carolina A&T.

· A Rattlers squad that advanced to the ArenaBowl in each of the last two seasons.

· Arizona's veteran AFL standouts Sherdrick Bonner and "Hunkie" Cooper.
