Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA â The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League has announced they have obtained wide receiver/linebacker Brian Leigeb from the Los Angeles Avengers in a trade for Luis Almanzar. Almanzar, currently with the Denver Broncos, was a member of the Soul's other league exempt roster.
In 2002, Leigeb (6-2, 205) played in 15 games for the Indianapolis Colts and recorded 11 tackles. Leigeb was a member of Soul head coach Michael Trigg's 2001 Grand Rapids Rampage team but was signed by the Colts during the season. In one game with the Rampage, he recorded one pass break-up.
A standout defensive back at Central Michigan University, Leigeb was named the team's MVP after leading the Mid-American Conference with an average of 13.4 tackles per game as a senior in 2000. Leigeb also holds the Chippewa record for tackles in a career and single game with 409 and 26, respectively.
The team also announced they have placed WR/LB Gary Compton on the injured reserved after he suffered a medial collateral ligament tear in his left knee. The Soul have also released fullback/linebacker Lavante Epson and resigned Temple University product Jon Clark to the practice squad.
The Soul return home this Saturday, February 21st when they host the Columbus Destroyers at Wachovia Spectrum. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the game are still available. The game will also be televised live on UPN-57 in Philadelphia and can be heard on WNJC 1360 AM or on the internet at www.wnjc1360.com.
