Cobras and Duke Sports Medicine Center Enter Unique Partnership

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 15, 2002)- The Arena Football League's Carolina Cobras and Duke Sports Medicine Center have entered into a unique partnership that will begin this season. The partnership makes Duke Sports Medicine the official medical provider of the Carolina Cobras and consists of numerous marketing and promotional opportunities for both properties in the Triangle area.

As one of the Cobras benchmark sponsors, Duke Sports Medicine will receive significant exposure during Cobras games this season, which includes logo exposure on the Cobras playing field and on the players' uniforms, as well as various in-game promotional opportunities. Duke Sports Medicine will be the presenting sponsor of all Cobras' radio broadcasts on 850 The Buzz Sports Radio and will also the sponsor of the Cobras C.A.R.E. community outreach program and Cobras Youth Football Clinic. Many Cobras players and coaches have been active throughout the Triangle community speaking to children as part of the Cobras C.A.R.E. community outreach program. Cobras' players annually shed their helmets and shoulder pads to serve as active role models in the Raleigh-Durham community. Over the past two seasons, the Cobras C.A.R.E. program has touched thousands of Triangle area youth.

"We are confident that Dr. Moorman, Dr. Higgins and their team of doctors offer a wealth of expertise and knowledge that will provide our football team with the best medical care possible."

Along with their support in the community, Duke Sports Medicine Center will also provide state-of-the-art health care to the Carolina Cobras, led by Dr. Claude T. Moorman, III and Dr. Laurence C. Higgins. Dr. Moorman is the head team physician for Duke University and Director of the Duke Sports Medicine Center and comes to the Triangle after serving as the NFL Baltimore Ravens team physician in 2000.

"We are extremely happy to be a part of the Cobras family and excited about associating Duke Sports Medicine with the evolving sport of Arena Football here in the Triangle," Dr. Moorman said. "We are proud to be providing care for the Cobras players and look forward to a great season working together."

The Cobras are one of 16 teams in the 16-year old Arena Football League. Carolina, which plays home games at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Raleigh, N.C., is one of the premier franchises in the high-energy, high scoring professional football league. In just their second season, the Cobras organization won the prestigious Commissioner's Award for excellence on and off the field in 2001. During their first two seasons in the Triangle, Carolina has averaged over 12,500 fans per game. The Arena Football League is one of sports' fastest growing leagues with three million fans expected to attend AFL and arenafootball2 (af2) games this season. Earlier this year, the AFL and NBC Sports reached a broadcast agreement to begin in 2003.
