CHARLOTTE, NC â The Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League announced the addition of former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Yusuf Scott and Presbyterian College standout D.J. Humphries.
Scott (6-3, 320, Arizona) spent three seasons with the Cardinals before playing the 2003 campaign with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. He was originally drafted by Arizona in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft as an early entry candidate out of the University of Arizona. Scott earned First Team All-Pac 10 Conference and Third Team All-American honors following his junior season. He received the Morris Award as the conference's top lineman after posting 102 knockdowns in assisting the Wildcats offense to 5,339 yards.
Scott is the sixth member of the Cobras' offensive/defensive line to have spent time in the NFL during the past two seasons, joining DeAngelo Lloyd (Washington), Norris McCleary (Seattle), Troy Pelshak (St. Louis), Bryan Ray (Carolina) and Chris Royle (Chicago).
Humphries (6-3, 200, Presbyterian) most recently spent time with the Baltimore Ravens (NFL) after signing as an undrafted free agent following the 2002 NFL Draft. The Union, SC native garnered NCAA Division II All-American recognition during his senior campaign at Presbyterian, setting single-season school records for receptions (95) and receiving yards (1,340). Humphries was also a four-year starter on the Blue Hose basketball team, compiling 1,263 points and 792 rebounds during his collegiate career.
The Cobras kick off the 2004 season on Sunday, February 8 on the road against the Dallas Desperados. Carolina will open their home schedule on Saturday, February 21 versus the Arizona Rattlers.
