Carolina Cobras News Release
CHARLOTTE  The Carolina Cobras announced today that they are adding professional football coaching veteran Eddie Khayat to their staff as senior advisor of football operations. Khayat will oversee all aspects of the team¹s football operations.
Khayat brings nearly six decades of experience in professional football to the Cobras front office, including 35 years as a player and coach in the National Football League. He was most recently with the AFL's Nashville Kats, where he served as head coach in 1997 and 1998 and as general manager from 1999-2001. Khayat was honored as the AFL's Coach of the Year in 1997 after guiding the expansion Kats to a division championship. In his two years as head coach, the Kats had a 19-11 record and made the playoffs both years. In his three seasons as general manager, the Kats made the playoffs each year and played in the ArenaBowl in 2000 and 2001. Khayat also served as head coach of the New Orleans Night in 1991.
"Coach Khayat is regarded as one of the top eyes for talent in all of football," said Cobras general manager Darrell Harbin. "He's going to be a huge benefit to the Carolina Cobras and will provide great guidance for Mike Hold, our coaching staff, our players and our front office."
Khayat played in the NFL for nine seasons with the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles before ending his playing career with the AFL's Boston Patriots. He was a starter on the defensive line for the Philadelphia team that won the 1960 World Championship. He later spent two seasons as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and spent over 20 years as a defensive line coach with Detroit, Atlanta, Baltimore, New England and Tampa Bay. Khayat was a coach on the New England Patriots 1985 AFC Championship team, which lost to the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX.
The Cobras return to the field on Friday, February 14 when they host the Detroit Fury in their first home game at the Charlotte Coliseum. Grammy-winning recording artist Lee Greenwood will sing the national anthem and perform at halftime as the Cobras honor the U.S. Military.
Tickets for all eight home games played at the Charlotte Coliseum can be purchased at the Charlotte Coliseum box office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 704-522-6500.
