Coach's Corner – Rampage Rap

Rockford Rampage News Release

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, November 29, 2008 ... "My initial comment about the game is WHAT A HEARTBREAKER! To have fought so hard and battled back to send the game into overtime and then lose that way was truly heartbreaking," sighed Coach Jeff Kraft.

"It doesn't matter how or why we lost because I've told the guys that we WIN as a team and we LOSE as a team. Mistakes happen and there are some days your game is really 'on' and other days it's off but you ALWAYS look to see what you can contribute to the team as a whole. We're a family and we have to play for each other so pointing out mistakes or blaming something or someone for a loss is just NOT how we're going to move forward with our Rockford Rampage squad.

"We're an improved team since our first game against Baltimore but we have also stepped into a much better and much more competitive league. Baltimore, Monterrey and Philadelphia have ALL been champions in a ten team league so it's going to take a little time for us to get there and we're going to have to focus on the little things that will help us win ... things like better and smarter marking instead of being wild and reckless but again, we're a team. There is no 'I' in team and that's not what we want from our players. We want them to be performing for the team first and then themselves.

"Let's face it, we were the underdogs coming in to the match last night but we had MORE than our fair share of chances. We just couldn't finish. Stewy (Matt Stewart) is a veteran and a warrior and it showed with his three goals. Bato scored his FIRST goal in this league and I was VERY comfortable with Novi as our sixth attacker. As a coach you never want to be in the position to use that play because it can very easily backfire on you with a little chip shot, etc. Sunday's game won't be any easier but we're going into the game fresh and with a new attitude ... this is OUR home and we have to defend it!

"Other than Stewy who's a little banged up from playing so hard, everyone else is healthy and we'll pretty much go into Sunday's game knowing that we just have to execute the 'little things" that much better to get the 'W'," he concluded.

The Rampage hosts Monterrey (Mexico) La RaZa again this Sunday, November 30th at 5:05pm at the MetroCentre. The first 500 fans will receive a FREE soccer flyer.
