Rampage Loses vs Mustangs 8-7
It was not the best of weekends for the Rockford Rampage, as Jeff Kraft's previously undefeated squad dropped both ends of their weekend doubleheader last weekend.
On Saturday night, the Rampage traveled east on I-90 to take on their expansion brothers, the Chicago Mustangs. The Rampage controlled much of the match but were behind 5-3 after three quarters. However, the Rampage came alive in the final frame, tallying four times, including a goal by Bojan Jovicic with less than a minute to go in regulation to give the Rampage a 7-6 lead. However, a goal by Bryan Velzaquez with eighteen seconds remaining knotted the score at 7. The Mustangs would carry the momentum into the bonus quarter, with a goal at 5:05 in overtime gave the Mustangs the win 8-7. A legitimate goal that hit the inside supporting bar of the goal frame was not given to the Rampage in the first minute of play of overtime.
Victor Sanchez led the Rampage with two goals, and Peter Kolasinski, Erik Lukin, Admir Ljeljak, Almicar Herrera, and Jovicic adding a goal each. Igor Dimov took the loss in goal for the Rampage in his first appearance with the team.
The next day, the Rampage (4-1) headed to Glen Carbon near St. Louis to face the Illinois Piasa. Sadly, the team could not overcome the previously winless Piasa, dropping a 5-2 decision. Dorin Oprea scored both goals for the Rampage, who were kept off the scoresheet in the second half of the match. Igor Dimov again was saddled with the loss.
The Rampage will return to the pitch this Sunday, December 16th, when they will make their first trip to the Lone Star State, where they will face the Rio Grande Valley Flash at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. Kickoff is scheduled for 6PM.
The Rampage will be back at the Victory Sports Complex (7003 North Alpine Rd in Loves Park) on Saturday, December 22nd, when they will host the (Beaumont) Texas Strikers. Kickoff for that game will be at 8:05PM. For more information on the Rampage, contact the team at (815) 633-7075 or visit the team's official website at www.rockfordrampage.com .
