Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - Peterborough Petes General Manager Mike Oke and Head Coach Rob Wilson have announced that coaches Andrew Verner and Derrick Walser will remain with the organization for the 2018-19 season.
Verner, a Petes alumnus who played eighteen professional seasons, has been promoted to Associate Coach. He most recently served as the team's Interim Head Coach from January to April 2018, and was previously the club's Assistant Coach (2014-2018) and Goalie Coach (2012-2014).
Walser, who played nineteen seasons of professional hockey and was the 1997-98 QMJHL and CHL Defenceman of the Year, will continue in his role of Assistant Coach following his first season behind the Petes bench.
"When Rob accepted the position of Head Coach, he indicated that it was his desire to get to know Andrew and Derrick," stated Oke. "Since his arrival, Rob has spent a great deal of time with them both and is excited to have them by his side."
"We've had a lot to do in terms of video and getting to know players and systems, and I'm really happy with the work that Andrew and Derrick have done since I started in Peterborough," added Wilson. "The openness that we've had between the three of us has been great so far, and I look forward to working more closely with them as the season approaches."
"I have deep feelings for this club and want to see it succeed," stated Verner. "I'm looking forward to the upcoming season and beyond."
"I'm excited for the opportunity to continue growing as a coach and helping to develop these young players," expressed Walser.
