Amarillo Bulls News Release
BULLSTOWN, TEXAS - The Amarillo Bulls are continuing to celebrate the team's historic 10th anniversary season! The team has announced that Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rocky Russo has signed a new two-year contract extension.
Russo, the fourth head coach in team history, was originally hired to the helm in June 2017. He had become bench boss after his initial stint with the team as an assistant, which culminated in winning the 2013 Robertson Cup. Under Russo's leadership of the North American Hockey League team, the Bulls have boasted an impressive 69-34-11 record in the regular season and made a Robertson Cup Semifinals appearance in 2019.
"Rocky is not only a great coach, but also a great person," said Bulls Majority Owner Alberto Fernandez of F&S Management. "His passion for developing hockey players, for winning and for giving back to the community epitomizes all the core Bulls values. This is a great day for Amarillo fans!"
"I am very excited to extend my contract with the Amarillo Bulls and F&S Management," said Russo. "My wife Melissa and I love being a part of the Amarillo community and look forward to continuing to pursue a national championship with the Bulls."
"Our organization's number one priority is the fans," said Bulls Minority Owner Bob Sweeney. "We are dedicated to excellence on and off the ice. Our commitment is to enhancing the fan experience and building even stronger bonds with the Amarillo community."
The Bulls also announced that Assistant Coach George Lewis, Athletic Trainer Will Heim and Equipment Manager Kyle Harden will return for the 2019-20 season. Last season, the Bulls finished with a 46-8-3 regular season record, winning the South Division title.
The Bulls return home to the Amarillo Civic Center's Budweiser Bull Pen for a series of games versus cross-state rival Lone Star Brahmas on October 11 and 12. For tickets and information, go to www.amarillobulls.com.
