
Coach Hermanson Hangs 'Em Up

The Sioux Falls Storm announced Friday afternoon that long-time Defensive Coordinator Brian Hermanson will retire after 12 seasons with the organization.
Coach Hermanson was an integral part of the coaching staff, posting a 129-30 record from 2011-2022. During his tenure with the Storm, Coach Hermanson had back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year honorees in 2013 and 2014, 25 players selected for All-League awards, six Conference Championships and seven Championships titles.
Earlier in his coaching career, Coach Hermanson served as the Defensive Coordinator at Roosevelt High School, but might be best known for his remarkable success as the Head Coach at Washington High School, where he compiled an 82-16 record from 2005-2012. His Warriors team advanced to the 11AA State Championship game six consecutive years and won the 11AA state title three times over a four year stretch. Coach Hermanson also sent 51 of his high school players to play at the collegiate level, 22 of those players competed at the Division I level.
Hermanson lettered in football for South Dakota State University from 1978-80 and was a member of South Dakota State's NCAA Division II playoff team his junior season.
He was recognized by SDSU as the 2013 recipient of the Ralph Ginn Award for Coaching Excellence.
