Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - After both teams traded zeroes through five innings, the JetHawks overcame a one-run deficit in the sixth and broke a tie in the eighth for a 4-2 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
Mott Hyde hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run for the JetHawks (53-49), the team's first since Brett Phillips on April 24 against Modesto. Keegan Yuhl held the Quakes (56-45) scoreless through his first five innings before Rancho Cucamonga opened the scoring in the sixth inning on a RBI-single by Joey Curletta.
With the scored tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ronnie Mitchell hit a one-out double to left-center to score Derek Fisher from third. After a walk to Jamie Ritchie, the JetHawks added a run as Quakes left fielder Jacob Scavuzzo dropped a Marc Wik fly ball with the bases loaded.
Rob Rogers (5-4) took the loss for Rancho Cucamonga, yielding the two decisive runs on two hits and two walks in the eighth, his only inning of work. Starter Chase De Jong had tossed five scoreless innings, striking out eight and allowing just one hit.
With the JetHawks trailing 1-0 in the seventh, Wik drew a leadoff walk from reliever Michael Johnson. Hyde followed with a fly ball to deep right-center, and as center fielder Brian Wolfe missed the ball on a diving attempt, Hyde circled the bases for a go-ahead inside-the-park homer. The Quakes, however, promptly tied the score in the eighth with a Brandon Dixon solo homer off Albert Minnis (2-3).
Tyler Brunnemann pitched a perfect ninth inning to record the save and secure the series victory for Lancaster.
The JetHawks open a four-game series on the road in Adelanto against the High Desert Mavericks on Thursday. David Paulino will start for the JetHawks in his high-A debut, and Trey Lambert (4-2, 4.74) will pitch for the Mavericks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
