Cleveland Gladiators Announce 2014 Season Schedule

CLEVELAND, OH---The Arena Football League announced its 2014 schedule this afternoon, which will see the Cleveland Gladiators play the first of nine home games at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday, April 4th against the Iowa Barnstormers at 7:30 p.m. The Gladiators will open the season on the road on Saturday, March 15th when they take on their heated rival, the Pittsburgh Power, in an interstate battle at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The 2014 season will be the sixth for the Gladiators in Cleveland and the 27th in existence for the AFL.

Open tryouts for the 2014 Cleveland Gladiators will provide an opportunity for players to become a member of this year's team. On Sunday, December 8th at The MultiPlex Complex, 18909 South Miles Road, Warrensville Heights, OH, players will be able to participate in a competitive open tryout in front of Gladiators coaches and team personnel for a chance to earn an invitation to Gladiators training camp in February. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and tryouts begin at 8:00 a.m. The cost for tryouts is only $75 per person and includes the full tryout plus a ticket to a 2014 Gladiators game. The 20-week AFL schedule will see the Gladiators face 10 of the other 14 teams in the league, with nine home games, nine on the road and two bye weeks (weeks 2 and 8). Six of the nine home games will take place on Saturday nights. Three will take place on Friday nights.

In 2014, the team will face East Division foes Pittsburgh three times (one home and two road) and 2012 and 2013 Arena Bowl runner-up the Philadelphia Soul two times (one home and one road). They will also face new addition to the East Division of the American Conference, the Iowa Barnstormers, three times (two home and one road). The Gladiators finished tied for second in the East Division of the American Conference last season.

Other schedule highlights include homes games against two teams beginning their inaugural seasons in the AFL. The Gladiators will battle one of the most highly anticipated teams to join the AFL in recent history on Saturday, May 10th when they take on the LA KISS, owned by legendary rock-n-roll band KISS. (The Gladiators will meet the LA KISS for the first time on April 12th in Los Angeles as the city welcomes the return of professional football.) The Gladiators will face their second AFL inaugural team at The Q on Independence Day weekend, Saturday, July 5th against Portland (official team name to be announced shortly) with a special start time of 6:00 p.m. The Gladiators will wrap their 2014 home regular season schedule on Saturday, July 19th when they face the Jacksonville Sharks. The Gladiators will finish the 2014 regular season on the road in Tampa Bay on Saturday, July 26th. All home games, with the exception of the April 4th home opener against Iowa (7:30 p.m.) and the July 5th game against Portland (6:00 p.m.), will have start times of 7:00 p.m.

Gladiators season ticket membership packages are on sale now, with tickets starting at only $10 per game. Group tickets and birthday bash packages for 10 or more are also currently available for the 2014 Gladiators season. Single game tickets will go on sale at a later date to be announced. The Cleveland Gladiators are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League playing at Quicken Loans Arena, as well as the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League playing in nearby Canton, Ohio at the Canton Civic Center.
