Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY— Louisville Bats pitcher Brandon Claussen (5-4) led the team to a 10-5 victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre throwing seven innings of no hit baseball before being taken out to a standing ovation, much to the chagrin of the 7, 310 in attendance.

Claussen struck out eight batters while walking three. Scranton/WB broke up the no hitter and shutout in the eighth. Ryan Wagner came on in relief to surrender the first Baron run. Juan Cerros pitched the ninth giving up four runs on a Mark Smith Grand Slam.

The Bats sent eight men to the plate in the second inning to start the scoring at Slugger Field. Four consecutive hits by Gary Burnham, Stephen Smitherman, Jim Chamblee and Aaron Holbert started the rally. Smitherman's double scored Burnham and he then scored on Chamblee's single to center. After a safety squeeze from Claussen, Reggie Taylor capped off the second with a RBI double to give the Bats the early 4-0 lead. Taylor would later be ejected in the third for arguing an out call from the dugout.

The Bats continued the onslaught in the fourth scoring four runs with two out. Kenny Kelly's two-run home run to center put the finishing touch on the inning, giving the Bats the 8-0 lead. Jason Romano, who entered the game for Taylor, also had a RBI single in the inning.

Chamblee and Dane Sardinha hit solo home runs in the seventh inning to increase the Bats lead to 10-0.

Josh Hancock (6-4) started for Scranton/WB giving up eight runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. He picked up the loss for the Barons.

The time of tonight's game was 2:41 and the attendance was 7,310. The Bats will begin a four-game series against Buffalo on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 7:15 p.m. The Bats' starter is to be determined and RHP Chad Durbin (1-1, 1.80) will start for Buffalo.
