Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers grabbed a 4-3 win in walk-off fashion over the Morehead City Marlins on Monday night. Edenton (13-8, 25-24) snapped a five-game losing streak, while Morehead City (13-9, 27-22) dropped its first second-half decision to the Steamers.
Sam Beattie grabbed the win for the Teal and Black. Beattie (2-3) hurled the final inning, allowing two hits but striking out the side to keep the Marlins off the board. Ted Christie gave the Steamers an excellent start, surrendering three earned runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts over five innings of work.
Jared Datoc shouldered the loss for the Marlins. Datoc (2-2) recorded one out in the ninth before allowing two runs on three hits and a walk to finish out the game.
The Clams drew first blood in the bottom of the fourth. Thatcher Coleman forced a walk to lead off the frame, and Mitchell Price followed with his fifth home run of the summer to put Edenton up 2-0.
Morehead City responded quickly in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back one-out singles put Cole Bedford and Chase Chambers on first and second, and a passed ball advanced them to second and third. Two batters later, Justin Weigle mashed a homer down the right-field line to put the Marlins on top, 3-2.
The score held into the bottom of the ninth before Trey Hair sparked a rally with a one-out single. Aaron Aucker fought off four two-strike pitches en route to a well-deserved walk, and Tony Rosselli loaded the bases with a single off the glove of the pitcher Datoc that fell harmlessly behind the mound. In the next at bat, Thatcher Coleman rolled a single down the third-base line to score Hair and Aucker and give the Steamers a 4-3 victory.
The Edenton Steamers remain at home to take on the Savannah Bananas on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
