City Secures Draw against Rochester to Remain at the Top

Orlando City SC News Release

Rochester, NY.- Orlando City SC (6-0-3, 21 points) secured a crucial 1-1 draw against the Rochester Rhinos (2-1-4, 10 points) at Sahlen Stadium on Saturday night. After going down late in the first half, Defender Luke Boden provided the equalizer midway through the second half.

Heading into the match against Rochester, Head Coach Adrian Heath had to utilize his roster with the Lions playing exactly 24 hours earlier in. Prior to the two-game road trip, the English manager expressed his unhappiness with playing back-to-back to matches but stated that securing at least four points would suffice.

After coming away with a 3-1 win in Pennsylvania last night, City lacked imagination in the first half and seemed to be playing for a draw. Rochester would make things difficult for the Lions when they went ahead late in the first half.

Rochester took the lead in the 34th minute when J.C. Banks cut inside and whipped a ball into the box for Tyler Rosenlund, who nodded it to the back-post leaving Carl Woszczynski with no chance.

Rochester Goalkeeper John McCarthy's first save of the night came in the 54th minute, when Sporting Kansas City loanee Mikey Lopez got onto the end of a cross from Corey Hertzog. The midfielder was unmarked at the back-post but struggled to put much on his header and McCarthy was able to make a comfortable save.

After struggling to create many clear-cut chances in the first half, Orlando looked much sharper in the opening portion of the second half and would eventually breakthrough in the 62nd minute.

Defender Luke Boden pounced on the ball after a poor clearance from the Rhinos defense and tucked away his second goal of the season.

Heath made a few attacking changes to push for a winning goal, but Boden's finish would prove to be the final goal of the match, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

City will now return back to Orlando to begin preparing for its second round Lamar Hunt Open Cup match against Premier Development League (PDL) side Ocala Stampede on Wednesday, May 14, at Seminole Soccer Complex.

The Lions will return back to league play when they travel west to take on Arizona United SC on Saturday, May 17.
