LA Galaxy II Earn 1-1 Road Draw with Dayton Dutch
May 10, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
LA Galaxy II News Release
LA Galaxy II extended their unbeaten streak to six games as they earned a 1-1 draw with the Dayton Dutch Lions on Saturday evening.
Chandler Hoffman scored his fifth goal of the team's USL PRO campaign, but a penalty kick goal by Dayton's Aaron Schoenfeld helped the Dutch Lions earn a point at the unveiling of their new home DOC Stadium. With the result, Los Dos are now in second place in USL PRO, just three points behind Orlando City Soccer Club.
The match was an even game from the start, but Galaxy II broke the deadlock four minutes before the end of the first half when Bradford Jamieson IV made a brilliant run through the midfield before playing a through-ball to Hoffman, who easily put the ball into the back of the net for his team-high fifth goal of the season.
The Dutch Lions were able to hit back before halftime, however, and were awarded a penalty kick two minutes later when Galaxy II defender Eder Arreola was whistled for a handball in the penalty area. Schoenfeld stepped up and put the equalizer into the bottom-left corner beating Galaxy II goalkeeper Cody Laurendi to leave the game tied at the break.
The Dutch Lions were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute when a strong challenge by Shintaro Harada on midfielder Laurent Courtois resulted in a red card for the Dayton defender. With the man advantage, the Galaxy II pushed forward in search of a winner, but Dayton goalkeeper Matt Williams was able to withstand the pressure. Williams finished the match with seven saves including a stop of a Travis Bowen chance in stoppage time to end Los Dos' hopes of a third straight victory.
LA Galaxy II will play two matches over the next week as they take on Cal FC in the U.S. Open Cup second round on Wednesday at 7:30pm PT before heading back on the road to visit Sacramento Republic FC at Hughes Stadium on May 17 at 7:30pm PT.
