
Ciriaco Drives in Five Runs in 'Jackets Win

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 43-21) began their final home series of the regular season against the Hickory Crawdads (30-40, 20-44) on Wednesday night winning 9-2. Starter Madison Bumgarner won his league leading 15th game and Juan Ciriaco homered twice finishing with a season high five RBIs.
The GreenJackets took the early lead in the first inning when Ciriaco connected for his first home run of the night, a two-run homer with one out, for a 2-0 lead.
Augusta increased the lead to 3-0 in the third inning on a two-out RBI single from Thomas Neal.
Bumgarner (15-3) worked five innings allowing one run on three hits. The lefty walked one and struck out nine.
The Crawdads plated their first run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI ground out from Erik Huber scoring Matt Hague. It was the first run allowed by Bumgarner in 37.2 innings pitched.
Augusta scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 6-1 lead. Garrett Baker led off the inning with a triple then Andrew Davis followed with an RBI sac-fly. Nick Noonan and Ciriaco came through with back-to-back, two-out RBI singles to increase the lead to five runs.
In the sixth inning Shane Jordan extended his hit streak to a season high nine games with an RBI single for a 7-1 lead. Ciriaco capped off the scoring with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season for a 9-1 lead.
Hickory got its second run in the eighth inning on a two-out RBI single from Tom Hagan off reliever Wilmin Rodriguez.
Rodriguez worked the final two innings allowing two hits, a run and striking out four.
David Mixon pitched two shutout innings in relief of Bumgarner allowing a hit and walking two.
The GreenJackets and Crawdads continue their series on Thursday with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Olde (9-7, 3.94) to the mound. Hickory sends left-hander Michael Felix (4-6, 5.56). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
The GreenJackets improved to 39-27 at home this season, 26-7 since the All-Star Break.
Augusta improved to a season high 35 games over the .500 mark.
The GreenJackets magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to one game.
Nick Noonan and Juan Ciriaco each finished with three hits in the game.
Augusta has eight home runs over the past three games.
Bumgarner leads the league in wins (15), strikeouts (164) and ERA (1.46)
