Cincinnati Kings News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa--The Cincinnati Kings dropped a 2-1 contest Saturday night to the Harrisburg City Islanders in United Soccer Leagues action.
A sellout crowd of 3,108, the largest crowd in City Islander history, saw the home team get on the board early, at the 1:34 mark, on a goal by forward Chad Severs. The score stayed 1-0 until the 72nd minute, when Harrisburg's Bernie Showers scored on a penalty kick after a foul on Kings goalkeeper Brian Schaeper.
The Kings' goal came in the 76th minute on an unassisted goal by Sam Fiore.
"Tonight's game is the result of the difference between experience and inexperience," said Kings Coach Jon Pickup. "While I was pleased with our work ethic, we need to eliminate the mental errors."
The Kings now stand at 3-4-2 in USL Second Division play. The City Islanders even their record at 3-3-1, with their lone tie coming in their season opener against the Kings.
For the second straight game Assistant Coach John McGinlay was pressed into action because of injuries, as the Kings traveled with only about a dozen healthy players for their second game in less than 24 hours. "With playing (yesterday) and not having a healthy squad, we looked competitive," said Coach Pickup. "I'm as happy as I can be, given the results."
The next game for the Kings is Saturday, June 11, on the road against the Western Mass Pioneers.
