DENVER – Five months after leaving the Colorado Mammoth Walt Christianson has returned as an assistant coach, the team announced Tuesday. Christianson, who left to take the head coaching position with the Vancouver Ravens in July, will resume his duties as the Mammoth's defensive coordinator.

The Ravens were removed form the 2005 National Lacrosse League schedule for failure to secure a suitable arena lease.

"Once we were told that Vancouver would not have a team this season, we realized that Walt might be available and we wanted him back," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "Walt is terrific coach and motivator and his expertise and knowledge of the game will only help us achieve our goal."

Christianson joined the Mammoth prior to the 2004 season after coaching the Western Lacrosse Association's Victoria (British Columbia) Shamrocks to a Mann Cup championship. He had spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as an assistant coach with the NLL's Calgary Roughnecks.

Christianson was named the WLA coach of the year in 1990, 2001 and 2002. He has three Mann Cup championships to his credit, including two as a player.

Christianson teaches high school social studies, history and physical education and lives in Victoria with his wife, Julia, and two sons.
