Chris Young named Southern League Hitter of the Week
August 15, 2005 - Southern League (SL1) News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL -Barons centerfielder Chris Young has been named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for August 8-14 marking the second time this season he has been awarded the weekly honor. Young was previously given the award for the week of June 20-26.
Young, 21, hit .444 and led the Southern League in several statistical categories this past week, including home runs (3), slugging percentage (.926), extra-base hits (7) and runs scored (11). He also tied for the league lead in RBI (12) and doubles (4). Young's bat has provided the spark for a six-game winning streak that has allowed the Barons to maintain their hold on first place in the South Division over a hot Jacksonville squad that has won its past 10 games. The Houston native leads the Southern League in doubles (38) and extra-base hits (60), and is second in the league in home runs (21), tied for second in runs scored (77) and third in slugging percentage (.549). Baseball America rates Young the seventh best prospect in the White Sox organization. The White Sox selected Young in the 16th round of the 2001 draft out of Bellaire High School in Texas.
