Seattle Sounders News Release

(Seattle, WA)- Seattle Sounders goalkeeper, Chris Eylander, was named USL-1 player of the week for his 10 save shutout victory over the Montreal Impact on Sunday, it was announced by the United Soccer Leagues today.

The selection is Eylander's first as Player of the Week and second of the year to the Team of the Week (week 1).

Eylander's 10 saves were tied for the most in his career, he saved 10 twice in 2007. Eylander now leads the league in saves with 73, he also finished first in saves in 2007 (109).

"Chris deserves every bit of recognition because he works extremely hard and not winning keeper of the year last year has only served to motivate him even more," said Coach Schmetzer. "I'm very happy for Chris and he's been a consistent performer all year long."

The Sounders came into Montreal on Sunday with tired legs playing their seventh game in less then two weeks. The Impact were rested having played the previous Sunday and the Seattle defense was under heavy pressure the entire match. Eylander kept the Sounders in the game with an array of spectacular saves which allowed Sebastien Le Toux to get a goal in the 73rd minute and steal three points from Montreal.

Eylander also came up big in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup last Tuesday, shutting out the Kansas City Wizards and making two key saves in the penalty shootout. The Sounders won the shootout 6-5 and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament where they'll meet the Charleston Battery on August 12.

The Sounders return home for a Friday night match-up with the Rochester Rhinos. The Rhinos beat Seattle 1-0 last Friday at PAETEC Park in Rochester, New York. Kick-off at Starfire is set for 8:00 pm, tickets are still available at www.ticketmaster.com.
