Vancouver Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, shuffled their roster around with several player moves on the off day. Shortstop Audy Ciriaco was placed on the disabled list and the 11th round pick in the 2008 draft, Brandon Douglas, will join the Whitecaps for their roadtrip to Beloit and Burlington this week. Also, catcher Adrian Casanova returns to West Michigan and catcher Angel Flores was transferred to short-season Oneonta.

Ciriaco's spot on the D.L. is retroactive to July 11 after leaving Thursday's game against Clinton with a leg injury while running to first base. Ciriaco was hitting .270 (81-for-300) with seven home runs and 39 RBI at the time of the injury for the Whitecaps.

Douglas will be the seventh 2008 draftee to join the Whitecaps roster this season. The right-handed, 22-year-old shortstop from the University of Northern Iowa was the Tigers 11th round draft pick in June. Douglas made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast League Tigers and hit .333 (9-for-27) with one home run and five RBI in seven games before a promotion to Oneonta. In 15 games with the O-Tigers, Douglas hit .327 (18-for-55) with one home run and three RBI, including a seven-game hitting streak.

Casanova returns to West Michigan after being promoted to Double-A Erie last month. Casanova spent a brief time as a backup catcher for Erie (two games) and Triple-A Toledo (three games). He hit a combined .267 (4-for-15) between the two stops. Casanova was hitting .211 (16-for-76) with one home run and eight RBI earlier this season with the Whitecaps.

Flores joined the Whitecaps from extended spring training on May 31 and leaves the Whitecaps after hitting .128 (6-for-47) with six RBI in 13 games with West Michigan.

The Whitecaps active roster stands at 25 with six players currently on the D.L. For more information on the roster moves, please contact the Whitecaps PR Department at 616-726-7052.
