Chouinard's Overtime Goal Leads Americans to Victory

Rapid City, SD - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, beat the Rapid City Rush on Saturday night by a score of 6-5 in overtime to win their second in a row.

Americans Captain Joel Chouinard scored just 1:49 into the overtime period to give the Americans the win. It was his first goal of the season. Chouinard took a pass from Chad Butcher in front of the Rapid City net and tipped one past Rush goalie Adam Carlson to win the game.

"It was a great pass from Chad (Butcher)," said Chouinard. "We never felt like we would lose this game. Give Rapid City credit for battling back, but with our offence we always believe we have a chance to win."

Allen blew a 5-0 lead to Rapid City. It was the second game in a row the Americans need extra time to beat the Rush. With the victory the Americans are back to even on the season with a 3-3-0-1 record.

Americans rookie forward and leading scorer Braylon Shmyr, had another big game with a goal and two assists. Shmyr is tied for the league lead with seven goals and is second in the ECHL in points with 13. Spencer Asuchak scored his third of the season and added an assist.

The Americans had another solid game on special teams going 3 for 4 on the power play. It was the third game in a row the Americans have scored with the man advantage.

The same two teams battle it out on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm CST. The Americans will start Jeremy Brodeur between the pipes. Allen is in search of their third win in a row.
