Chivas USA Forward Erick Torres Voted MLS Player of the Week

July 7, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, July 7, 2014) - Chivas USA forward Erick Torres was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 17 of the 2014 MLS season.

Torres' two goals propelled Chivas USA to two 1-0 victories, defeating the San Jose Earthquakes and Montreal Impact.

Torres registered his first of two game winners in the 53rd minute against the Earthquakes in San Jose on Wednesday, July 2. Chivas USA midfielder Mauro Rosales played a cross into the box that the Earthquakes failed to clear, the loose ball fell right to the right foot of Torres and the Golden Boot contender calmly placed it into the left corner.

In Saturday's 1-0 win against Montreal, Torres netted a dramatic Goal of the Year nominee. Chivas USA midfielder Marco Delgado's shot from distance deflected off Montreal defender Matteo Ferrari and bounced towards Torres on the right side of the box, Torres volleyed the ball to himself and fired the ball past goalkeeper Troy Perkins with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

Chivas USA hit the road for their next match when they take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on July 12 (10:30 p.m. ET).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/ .
