Chittenden's three-run homer propels Keene over North Adams, 4-1

NORTH ADAMS, MA - Scoreless after four innings of play, Keene shortstop Alex Chittenden (Indianapolis, IN/Louisville) broke open the tied ball game with a three-run blast to left field to give the Swamp Bats an eventual 4-1 win over the North Adams SteepleCats on Saturday night at Joe Wolfe Field.
Keene improves to 25-14 overall. North Adams falls to 13-26 on the season.
Timothy Flight (Portsmouth, RI/Southern NH) earned the win in relief (2-0) on two-and-two-thirds of scoreless work, a pair of hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Curtis Arsi (Washington Township, NJ/Rowan) suffered the loss on five innings, six hits, three runs (all earned), three walks and one strikeout.
Swamp Bats starter Jeff Thompson (Greenville, IN/Louisville) was handed a no-decision on three-and-one-thirds innings pitched yielding just one hit, two walks and four punchouts.
Tied 0-0 in the fifth, Chittenden launched his fourth homer of the season to deep left field plating Curt Powell (Knoxville, TN/Georgia) and Kevin Brown (Northborough, MA/Bryant) for a 3-0 advantage.
Brett Barrett (Keene, NH/Southern Maine) extended Keene's lead in the sixth hooking a ground-rule double down the left field line driving home Colby May (Guyton, GA/Georgia) who walked and advanced to second on a stolen base earlier in the frame to push the gap to 4-0.
North Adams cut into the deficit at 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning as Drew Gadaire (Gainesville, FL/Davidson) ripped a triple to centerfield and scored on a fielding error by Chittenden. The SteepleCats rally fell short as Swamp Bats reliever Scott Silverstein (Brookeville, MD/Virginia) left Cameron Griffin (Jonesboro, GA/Columbus St.) stranded at second base striking out the next two batters he faced.
Barrett collected Keene's only multi-hit performance of the night going 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. For North Adams, Chantz Mack (Homestead, FL/Miami) was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot while teammate Jacob Daniel (Russellville, AL/Eastern Kentucky) was also 2-for-4.
Keene returns to action tomorrow against the Danbury Westerners on the road at 6:30 pm.
