Chinooks Strike Early In The Lone Star State

June 2, 2013 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Portland Chinooks News Release

The Woodlands, Texas - There was no jet lag when the Portland Chinooks took the floor at John Cooper Gymnasium in a suburb of Houston on Saturday night for the first of two weekend games versus the LoneStar Strikers. Portland showed the host team why they're the veteran IBL squad. LoneStar is competing as a 2013 branding team playing a five-game trial schedule.

The Chinooks struck early, building a 31-13 lead after the first period. The second frame was much closer with both teams hitting for 28 points. Portland led by that same 18-point margin at halftime, 59-41.

The lead for the good guys grew to as much as 20 (81-61) as the 3rd period ended. Portland gave up 38 points to the home team in the 4th quarter, and LoneStar got as close as 9 before running out of time. The Chinooks (4-5) held on for a 108-99 victory, ending their two-game skid.

Portland's 2nd win in five road contests was key in the Continental Conference standings, as Portland was able to keep within one game of Salem. They have a chance to re-take 3rd place with a win on Sunday afternoon. The Chinooks and Strikers meet again at 3:00pm (Pacific), before Portland comes home for the remaining nine regular season games and playoffs.
