Portland Chinooks News Release
PORTLAND - With revenge on their minds after blowing a big lead in the first game in the "Battle of the Bridge" series, the Portland Chinooks took care of business on Saturday night inside the O'Connell Sports Center at Clark College, defeating Vancouver 119-110.
The Volcanoes were undefeated on the season coming into the match-up, while Portland's only blemish was that May 4th meltdown. The win puts the Chinooks and Volcanoes both at 5-1, tied for first place in the IBL's International Conference.
Seven Chinook players hit for double figures, led by 6'9" forward Jared Cunningham with 25 points and seven rebounds. 6'6" F Germain Jordan was just two assists shy of a triple double (19 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists). The other Jermaine, Blackburn that is added fifteen points. Dominique Watson, Justin Steinke and Sean Gaines each contributed thirteen while Antwan Williams scored eleven and pulled down six boards.
Steffen Harvey dished out a season-high nine assists. His former college teammate at Warner Pacific, 6'9" center Kaylone Riley made his Chinooks debut adding six points and blocking two shots.
About Riley: "He's a phenomenal athlete. He's lightning quick and can get his head above the rim," said Head Coach Trevor Kiser.
Portland was out-rebounded by seventeen and shot in the mid-40 percentile from the field and three- point range. Vancouver blocked eight shots.
After playing five of their first six games on the road, the Chinooks now get to enjoy some home cooking with the next four and six of seven overall at Eastmoreland Courts. That lone road contest will be the final across the bridge in the five-game regular season BOTB series. First up are Bellingham and Salem this Friday and Saturday on Memorial Day weekend at 7pm. Tickets for all Chinooks games are available at the door (3015 SE Berkeley Place).
