Portland Chinooks News Release
Portland, Oregon - The Portland Chinooks made easy work of Nippon on Tuesday evening at Eastmoreland Courts, coming away with another convincing victory, 142-92 for their 8th straight win. It's the 12th loss in a row for the Tornadoes.
The game was back and forth early before the home team got serious. The Chinooks held a 42-25 advantage after the first period. They pushed it to a first half high of 30 before going into the locker room leading 71-45.
Portland hit the 100 point mark late in the third and still led by 26 after three quarters. They put up 42 points in the final period while holding their opponent to just 18.
The eleventh win in the past thirteen games allowed the Chinooks (11-5) to increase their lead over Salem for third place to two and a half games, and climb within a game and a half of Vancouver.
Jared Cunningham (6'9" F - Cleveland State) was the leading scorer with 25. Germain Jordan (6'6" F - Dillard) got himself a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Ford (6'9" C - Oral Roberts) was just three assists away from his second triple-double in a week with 22 points and 16 rebounds. David Lucas (6'8" F - Oregon State) hit for 21 points.
The Chinooks were the better shooting team, connecting on 53% of their attempts to 34% of the Tornadoes. Rebounds weren't even close with Portland taking it 81-55. About the only thing they did poorly on the night was shoot free throws, making just 8 of 16.
Masa Kataoka and Jordan Highland paced Nippon with 24 points and 10 rebounds apiece. Tyson Christie added 23, and Syusei Ishii chipped in 10.
It sets up another key Continental Conference battle between I-5 rivals Portland and Salem on Thursday night at 7:00 in Eastmoreland. The Chinooks look to secure the third spot in next month's IBL playoffs.
