Edmonton Chill News Release
The Edmonton Chill came through in historic fashion Saturday night at the Grant MacEwan Gym as they picked up the first win in franchise history as they beat back a late run from the Central Oregon Hotshots and pulled away at the line late to win 132-120.
Central Oregon controlled the game early taking a 15-point first quarter lead, but the Chill answered with a 40-point explosion over the second 12 minutes to take a 62-60 halftime lead. The two teams traded baskets through the third and entered the final quarter in a tight ballgame. The Chill though, led by JR Patrick and Stephen Sir, pulled away as the team got hot from downtown with the two combining to shoot 10-21 from beyond the arc. The Chill were coasting as they enjoyed an 18-point lead with about eight minutes to go before Central Oregon got their transition game going and managed to close to within four with three-and-ahalf to play. The Chill withstood the rush and were able to pull away late icing it by going 5-6 from the freethrow line in the closing minute.
Leading the way on the scorer's sheet for the Chill was Patrick and his 26 followed by Sir and his 22. Four other Chill players also notched double-figures. Marques Hayden was the game's top rebounder with 12 and Lee Scruggs chipped in nine boards of his own. For the Hotshots Blake Walker dropped in 30 points as six of the eight Central Oregon players scored better than ten points. Terry Horton was their top rebounder with eight.
The same two teams will lock up again tomorrow at Grant MacEwan with the opening tip at 7:11pm
