Solid Year 1 Comes to a Close

June 28, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Edmonton Chill News Release

Monroe, WA - For the second time this year the Edmonton Chill were playing for the third straight night, and for the second time the Chill's heavy legs and a stout opponent were too much for the first year team as they fell in their playoff semi-final rematch with the Bellingham Slam 129-101.

The Chill came into the game looking to avenge their opening weekend losses to Bellingham, the only games they would drop this season at the MacEwan Center, and battled the Slam hard from the opening tip led by Rashaun Broadus' seven points on three of five shooting. Unfortunately, only three other Chill players scored while Bellingham was executing their offense and distributing the ball to get seven guys on the score sheet led by Jacob Stevenson who tallied six and led his team to a 27-22 lead.

As the second quarter opened the Slam took over the game and would outscore the Chill 40-20 in the quarter, including a 24-4 run to blow open a tight game. The Chill at that same time were running cold as they shot just 29% in the stanza and were outscore by as a team by just Brandon Hartley and Tyler Amaya who combined for 26 points. Bellingham had seized full control by the half-time buzzer and led 67-42 as they two teams headed to the dressing room.

That lopsided score after 24 minutes was as close as the Chill would get at any point and would in fact fall back by as much as 44 before rallying late to close to the final score, 129-101. The high man for the Chill was Rashaun Broadus who scored 24 to go with 11 rebounds and was among five Edmonton players in double figures on the game. Andrew Parker also had 11 boards as well as a couple highlight reel dunks in the late goings. For Bellingham Amaya and Hartley both dropped 24 with Ryan Diggs and Paul Hafford also both topping 20 in the game.

Still, despite the bitter last pill, the team walked out of the gym with secure in the knowledge that they had laid a great foundation for this organization having won 13 games, including one in the playoffs, in just their first year in the IBL.
