Chill Sizzles in Scrimmage
January 12, 2004 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Colorado Chill News Release
The Colorado Chill made sure it would open its first-ever season with a win, as the team treated season ticket holders and special guests to the Black/White intra-squad scrimmage at the Budweiser Events Center on Sunday night. The crowd of 848 didn't go home disappointed.
With rosters rotating at the mid-way mark of the game, there was no clear-cut winner to the night's contest, other than the fans. The biggest winner of the night may have been Allison Curtin. The 5-foot 11 guard, just coming off of ACL surgery wasted little time introducing herself to the hometown crowd. Splitting time between the White and Black squads Curtin posted 36-points, highlighted by a four-point play with 18.7 seconds left to end the game and seal the 81-80 win for the White.
In addition to Curtin's display, Chill fans were treated to Ruth Riley's dominance of the paint, putting up 21-points. Jenny Roulier was next in scoring with 17.
Things take a turn for the serious Saturday, as the Chill makes its regular-season debut. Colorado will host the two-time defending ProCup Champion Houston Stealth at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday, January 17th; tip off at 7 PM.
