October 24, 2005 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Colorado Chill News Release
Northern Colorado native and University of Texas standout signed a contract with the Colorado Chill for the 2006 season. Carey is a 1999 graduate of Horizon High School in Thornton. She is currently playing for the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA league.
"Jamie was a top priority on our list to sign to the Chill roster. It is a goal of the NWBL and the Chill to recruit regional talent," says Coach Packard. "We are very excited to have her on our roster and plan to play her at point guard and Becky Hammon at shooting guard."
Carey started her collegiate career at Stanford, but due to post-concussive symptoms was forced to retire from college basketball. After sitting out for two years, she found herself at the University of Texas where she helped lead the Longhorns to a Big 12 Conference crown. In 2003 she was named All-America honorable mention and NCAA Tournament All-West Regional Team. Carey, who is also a two-year National Player of the Year candidate who closed out her UT career in the spring of 2005, has been named the 2004-05 NCAA Woman of the Year for the entire State of Texas. Carey joins WNBA All Star Becky Hammon, Olympian Ruth Riley and NWBL All Star Katie Cronin on the Chill roster.
The Colorado Chill season will run from February through the end of March. The Chill is a part of the five team NWBL league and play their home games at the Budweiser Events Center. Season tickets are now on sale and going fast. Fans can purchase season tickets by calling Melissa at 970-223-6644 ext 167. For group ticketing information please call Liz Garcia at 970-619-4122.
