Chicago Blaze News Release

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze yesterday signed center Monika Roberts (Providence '01) and forward Tia Jackson (Georgetown '03) to shore up their front court. Both players were in uniform Sunday afternoon when the Blaze defeated the NWBL All Stars 92-36 at Merner Fieldhouse at North Central College in Naperville. Jackson led all scorers with 18 points while "Boo" Barnes added 15 going a perfect 6-6 from the floor.

The Blaze announced that effectively immediately, Olympia Scott-Richardson and Michelle Greco would be placed on the inactive list while they pursue overseas opportunities. The Blaze also waived forward Roslyn Turner who was attempting to return after missing all of 2002 with a leg injury.

"Losing Olympia and Ros was definitely a setback and it left a huge gap in our front court. Hopefully the combination of Roberts and Jackson will fill that void," said General Manager Robert Graham. "We will get a good look at both of them this week." Coach Littlejohn is relieved to finally get some big bodies, stating, "we have been playing players out of position all week. The addition of these two players will help immediately."

Tamika Catchings missed yesterday's exhibition game due to a prior WNBA commitment. She will be in uniform when the Blaze opens their regular season against the Colorado Chill next Sunday. The Chill is led by WNBA Finals MVP Ruth Riley (Notre Dame)
