Chiefs Win In Overtime, Take Series In 6

April 20, 2011 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release

Down three goals going into the third period, the Spokane Chiefs rallied to tie it up, eventually took a 4-3 lead and finished their series with the Tri-City Americans when Levko Koper scored 6:39 into overtime of game six and won the Western Conference Semifinal four games to two. The last three games went into overtime with the Chiefs winning the final two.

The Americans took a 1-0 lead 6:03 into the first on an Adam Hughesman goal. After the Chiefs' Tyler Johnson took a 5-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct Patrick Holland scored 2:42 into the second period and pushed their lead to 2-0. Holland then made it 3-0 at 8:54 of the second.

Spokane's comeback started at 1:16 when Darren Kramer pushed across his fifth of the playoffs from Davis Vandane and Collin Valcourt. Tanner Mort's snap shot, his first of the playoffs, from the left circle made it a one goal game at 2:35.

Blake Gal appeared to have tied it up 48-seconds later in a goal mouth scramble but play went on after the referee had initally waved it off. In the next stoppage of play, and after a lenghty review from the WHL Video Goal Judge, it was ruled that the puck did cross the line and the game was tied at 3:13.

Kenton Miller then tucked the past Drew Owsley in the Tri-City net and Spokane had a 4-3 lead at 8:57.

Hugheman's second of the night at 12:39 came with Tri-City skating on a five-on-three power play with Kenton Miller and Levko Koper both in Spokane's box.

In overtime, Collin Valcourt carried the puck into the Tri-City zone and put a shot on net which bounced into the slot for an awaiting Koper, who buried it for the game winner.
