Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips created multiple scoring chances and outshot Spokane in the third period, but couldn't manage more than one goal in a 4-1 loss to the Chiefs Wednesday night at Comcast Arena. The 'Tips will now prepare for a busy weekend with three games in three days including home dates with Edmonton and Portland on Friday and Saturday.
Ryan Harrison scored the lone Everett goal in the first period, with Josh Winquist drawing an assist to re-gain sole possession of the team scoring lead with 42 points. Reid Petryk also assisted on the goal, earning his 99th career point in the process. Austin Lotz (13-17-1-1) stopped 25 of 29 shot in net while taking the loss for the Silvertips.
A quick-moving first period featured only three whistles in the first 15 minutes before Carter Proft opened the scoring at 15:20; wrapping around the net and banking a shot in off Lotz and in for a 1-0 Spokane lead. The 'Tips tied the game 59 seconds later when Reid Petryk won a battle along the boards and Josh Winquist then found Ryan Harrison, who fired a laser into the top corner. Spokane re-gained the lead on a powerplay with less than a second left in the period as Lotz made two saves before Brenden Kichton knocked in the third chance. Shots were 9-8 in favor of the visitors after 20 minutes.
The Chiefs tacked on another goal in the second frame to take a 3-1 lead with one period left to play. Spokane created a series of shots after the 'Tips couldn't clear their own zone at the end of a long shift, leading to Todd Fiddler banging in a rebound at 18:11. Everett killed off another penalty to end the period, but trailed by two heading into the third.
The 'Tips outshot the Chiefs 11-8 in the third, but couldn't solve Garret Hughson to draw closer on the scoreboard. Spokane sealed their victory when Kichton scored his second of the night on a slap shot from the blue line, making it 4-1 at the 7:28 mark. Shots on goal for the game were 29-26 in favor of the Chiefs. Hughson (8-5-0-0) turned away 25 shots for Spokane. Everett went 2-for-3 on the penalty kill, but didn't score on three powerplay opportunities of their own.
The Silvertips continue a three-game homestand with two more games this week, hosting the defending WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night at 7:35. Everett will then look to down the high-flying Portland Winterhawks Saturday night at Comcast Arena before completing a three-in-three weekend on the road against the Vancouver Giants on Sunday afternoon.
