Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have acquired defenseman Chris Zarb from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for future considerations.

"Chris brings a steady and experienced presence to the Chiefs. He will be counted on to play in all situations, and as a left-handed shot he will help balance us out our right-handed shooting defensemen," said Vice President and General Manager Bill Bredin.

A 6-4, 200-pound defenseman from Waterford, Michigan, Zarb is in his second season of professional hockey. Through six games with Gwinnett this season he has three assists, four penalty minutes and is a plus-one. He began his pro career last season with the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves. Over 37 games Zarb posted 16 points (5G, 11A), 59 penalty minutes, and a -2 rating. He was with the Sea Wolves when they traveled to Johnstown for games on January 28 and 30, 2009 and came away with one assist. The 24 year old also skated in four games with the American Hockey League's Philadelphia Phantoms and garnered four penalty minutes.

Drafted in the fifth round (#144 overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2004 NHL Entry draft, Zarb played three seasons of college hockey at Ferris State University. In his time with the Bulldogs, Zarb posted 29 points (2G, 27A) over 79 games, and helped the team reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008.

Zarb is expected to be in the lineup when the Chiefs host Wheeling on Friday, November 13 at 7:05 p.m.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice Friday, November 13 against Wheeling at 7:05. The Chiefs will be hosting Dollar Dog Friday courtesy of SMG. All night hot dogs will be just $1 at all War Memorial Arena concession stands. Good seats are still available and you can get yours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or calling 1-800-TICKETMASTER.
