Ontario Reign News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, was defeated by the Victoria Salmon Kings at Save-On Foods Memorial Centre. Victoria's second win of the season saw 3,922 fans in the stands for the Wednesday evening match.
Victoria center Dirk Southern picked up his first goal of the season with his power play shot at 8:10 in the first period that sailed over goaltender Curtis Darling's glove and into the back of the net. Defensemen Gary Gladue and Jimmy Sharrow, who made his first appearance with Victoria since signing with the club on Wednesday, registered the assists on what would be the game-winning goal for the Salmon Kings.
Forward Andy Brandt extended the Salmon Kings' lead to two goals at 3:41 in the second period with assists from center Mike Hamilton and defenseman Mike Salekin.
Victoria netminder Matt Keetley saved all 35 shots he faced in his first game with the club since being re-assigned by the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) on Tuesday. Victoria claimed their second win of the season with a final score of Salmon Kings 2, Reign 0.
