October 31, 2007 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Chicago Storm News Release
Saturday night the Chicago Storm kicked off the 2007-08 season with an 11-10 victory over the California Cougars, marking the second straight season that the Storm has beaten the Cougars in Chicago's home opener. The Storm was led by target man Mark Ughy and midfielders Matthew Stewart and John Ball who each scored a goal and an assist. Midfielder Andy Rosenband added a goal and defender Randy Soderman scored a three-point game winner to seal the victory. In net, Jeff Richey extended his twelve game regular season winning streak, stopping 19 of 24 shots.
Now the Storm gets ready to take on the expansion La RaZa in Monterrey, Mexico Thursday night at 8:35 pm. This marks the home debut of La RaZa and the first time that Chicago travels to Mexico for a game. Chicago (1-0) looks to continue winning and Monterrey is planning to make its' mark as the only team in the league located outside of the United States.

In the Lead: Four Storm players are in the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) Top 20 in points. Defender Randy Soderman, midfielders Matthew Stewart and John Ball and forward Mark Ughy each have three points, tied for seventh in the league... Defender Randy Soderman is tied for first in the league in Game Winning Goals (1) and Three-Point Goals (1).
Wasn't he with them? Chicago Storm midfielder Mariano Bollella and defender Fabinho each played with Monterrey. Bollella was with the La Raza from 1999-2001, having won the WISL Championship in 2000. In the same year Bollella led the league in goals and was named the WISL MVP... Fabinho played was a member of La Raza from 1999-2000, having won the Championship with Monterrey in 2000.
First Timers: Saturday night three Chicago Storm players made their debut for the yellow and black. Two-time MISL All-Star Carlos "Chile" Farias and rookies Edgar Rivera and forward Benjamin Chavolla each played in their first game for the Storm.
Hot Streaks: Goalkeeper Jeff Richey has won twelve straight regular season games in net dating back to March 19, 2006... Midfielder Matthew Stewart has played in 77 consecutive games for the Storm, most of any Storm player.
Versus Monterrey: The expansion Monterrey La RaZa plays the Storm for the first time, this Thursday night... The Storm is 0-1 versus teams from Monterrey, having lost to the Monterrey Tigres 6-3 in 2004.

"It was going to be hard game. I like the way we responded. In the fourth quarter, I thought we were pretty good and put a lot of pressure on (the Cougars). They were good for spells. I thought (Jeff Richey) was outstanding in goal. He made some massive saves for us. We were a little untidy in front of goal and gave second chances and third chances which is unlike us.
