Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel announced Wednesday the installation of a new, state-of-the-art scoreboard for the team's USHL home games at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The four-sided rectangular Daktronics scoreboard features two stunning High-Definition LED video screens, each measuring 14 feet wide by 10 feet tall, complimented by two traditional scoreboard panels. The scoreboard will debut during Steel home games later this month.
The scoreboard, fully-funded by the Steel, weighs 5,500 pounds. Each video screen contains hundreds of 10mm LED bulbs. In addition to the scoreboard, the team will also introduce a pregame light show featuring six new Gobo lights with LED projection that features logo display and spotlight functionality.
"The new scoreboard and lights are a game-changer for our game presentation and will greatly enhance the experience for Steel fans," said Steel President Dan Lehv. "There's a new wow-factor when you enter Fox Valley Ice Arena, and we can't wait to share our new toy with our fans later this month."
Live game video, interactive fan promotions, player features, highlights, statistics, recorded segments and more will be featured on the stunning video displays. The scoreboard is the centerpiece of several major additions to the Fox Valley Ice Arena since the Steel relocated to the building this past summer.
"We not only have an exciting product on the ice to offer, but with free parking, free Wi-Fi and all of the entertainment possibilities that the new video board provides us, the fan experience will continue to be at the top of this organization's priority list," said Lehv.
Construction and installation by Sievert Electric began on Dec. 14, and the scoreboard was lifted to the rafters on January 4. The previous four-sided scoreboard was lowered and two panels were relocated to the end walls of the arena.
"We're grateful to our partners at the Fox Valley Ice Arena and, in particular, the arena staff that has assisted in the installation process and for all they have done since our arrival to the building. Behind the scenes, the arena has installed a new sound system, ice logos, signage and more to help us turn a recreational rink into an entertainment venue," said Lehv.
The scoreboard is expected to be unveiled when Chicago returns to Fox Valley Ice Arena for its next home game Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. to take on Muskegon. This game will feature Mommy, Minions and Me Day. Plus, it's a Steel Family Pack game - fans can receive four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four chuck-a-pucks starting at just $59. Tickets are available at the box office inside Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL or online at ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com.
