Chicago Slaughter News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES - With one week remaining in the 2010 regular season, the Chicago Slaughter (6-7), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, have secured a playoff berth during their first season with the IFL. Post season play is scheduled to begin the last weekend in June and will consists of 16 teams, the top team from each of the 6 Divisions plus 5 Wild Cards in each conference, competing in 4 rounds to determine the United Bowl Champion. During the first round, teams ranked 1-4 will host games versus teams ranked 5-8 in each conference based on geographic proximity. Following the outcome, teams will be re-ranked 1-4 based on regular season records in each conference and the 1st seed will host the 4th seed, while the 2nd seed will host the 3rd seed in each conference for Conference Semi-Finals. Conference Finals will be played the following weekend leading to the League Championship game to crown the 2010 IFL United Bowl Champion.
The Slaughter will hit the road this weekend for their final game of the 2010 regular season with fierce Central North Division rivals the Green Bay Blizzard (9-4), who are currently leading the division. The Blizzard has suffered two losses to the Slaughter earlier this season. This will be the third time these divisional rivals will face off and the Slaughter is looking to make it a season sweep. Depending on the outcome of this weekend's divisional play, there is a good chance these two rivals will meet again in the first round of the playoffs. Football fans are well aware of the Packers/Bears rivalry, which is the longest running one in the NFL. This weekend's match-up continues to build on the contentious rivalry between these two football powerhouse cities, which could turn out to be a preview of the following week's post-season play.
"It is always a big game playing Green Bay and we are very aware there is a good chance we will meet again in the playoffs," said Alan Perkins, Chicago Slaughter GM. "It is tough being on the road, but post-season play is all about when you get hot...you see it in every sport. All you need is an invitation to the playoffs."
Kickoff for this weekend's road game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 19th, at the Online Trading Academy Field in the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI. Details surrounding the 2010 playoffs will be forthcoming over the next week.
