Chicago Slaughter News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES - The Chicago Slaughter (6-7), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, fell to the LaCrosse Spartans (3-10) Saturday night in front of 4,648 fans at the Sears Centre Arena with a final score of 27-20 for the last regular scheduled Slaughter home game for 2010 season. Spartans QB Gary Rivera scored the game winning touchdown with 43 seconds left on the clock. Slaughter QB Randy Hutchison finished his day going 13-29 for 140 yards and one touchdown. WR Irani DeAraujo had 6 catches for 49 yards and WR Reggie Gray had three catches for 46 yards and one touchdown.
The Slaughter got off to a fast start as Hutchison hooked up with Gray for a 35-yard touchdown on the first play of the game. The Spartans responded with a 1-yard touchdown carry by QB Gary Rivera to tie up the score at 6-6, thus ending the 1st quarter scoring. LaCrosse got back on the scoreboard in the 2nd as RB Mark Bosuah carried three yards for a score to make it 13-7. After a Slaughter rouge gave La Crosse another point, the Spartans tacked on two more field goals to extend their lead to 20-6 going into halftime.
After a slow start for both teams to begin the third quarter, DB Dennison Robinson intercepted Rivera and returned it 18-yards for a score to cut the lead to 20-13, in what ended up being the only score during the third quarter. The Slaughter got the ball back after a missed Spartans field goal, and after a fake field goal conversion, the team scored on a 1-yard run by RB Tavaris Woodley to tie the score at 20-20. After a Hutchison interception, LaCrosse drove deep into Chicago territory and scored on a Rivera1-yard run with 43 seconds left in regulation to give the Spartans the win.
In a highly competitive Central North Division, the Slaughter still have a shot at the final playoff spot in their conference, as they hold a one-game lead over West Michigan for the final wild card spot. To help secure a playoff position, spot the Slaughter will look to pull out a victory when they head north to Green Bay next weekend to take on the Blizzard for their final regular season game.
