Chicago Shamrox News Release
CHICAGO, IL December 14, 2006 - The Chicago Shamrox indoor professional lacrosse team today officially announced their Opening Day roster for the upcoming inaugural season. The roster, which features players from the United States and Canada, contains 23 active roster players and 3 practice roster players. The roster is highlighted by notable NLL veterans including forward Chris Panos, all-star defender Cam Woods, and goaltender Brandon Miller, and also features collegiate all-stars Josh Wasson-McQuigge (#1 round selection, University of Hartford) and Bill McGlone (University of Maryland, 4th round selection).
"Our Shamrox final roster is set and I really like the talent on our team," said General Manager/Head Coach Jamie Batley. "Our roster features players with tremendous NLL experience, solid team players, and some young players with incredible talent."
Building of the roster involved several steps over the past six months. On July 12, 2006, eleven players were selected in the NLL expansion draft, highlighted by the number one overall pick, goaltender Brandon Miller. Then on September 13, the Shamrox selected seven players in the collegiate Entry Draft that was held in New York City. Of the seven players selected, four made the final roster; Mike Kirk (Dickinson College, 3rd round), Cody Jacobs (Six Nations, Canada, 5th round), Bill McGlone, and Josh Wasson-McQuigge. The Shamrox also signed free agents such as veteran forward Chris Panos and made several trades including one that brought 2004 NLL Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Cam Woods, to the Windy City. The Shamrox then held open tryouts on October 14 at the Darien Sportsplex in suburban Chicago. Two players, Zach Heffner (University of Virginia) and Phil Brauch (Butler University), both made the final roster from the Darien tryouts.
"The whole process of trimming down the roster to the final 26 guys has been extremely difficult," said Phil Ryan, Vice-President/Director of Lacrosse Operations. "We had to make some tough decisions, but we are going to be extremely competitive in our first year."
The Shamrox start indoor lacrosse play with their Home Opener on Saturday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m. against the New York Titans at the Home of the Shamrox, the Sears Centre arena in Hoffman Estates. The Shamrox host 8 home games, all on weekend dates.
Shamrox season tickets, starting at only $10 per game, group ticket reservations, team merchandise and single game tickets, starting at only $15 per game, are available online at the official Website, www.ChicagoShamrox.com, or by phone at 1-877-SHAMROX.
