Chicago Mustangs News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL. What better way to end 2012 for the professional arena soccer team Chicago Mustangs (6-2-0) than beating the Cincinnati Kings (6-2-0) on their own turf in a game that showed the Mustangs' spirit, coming from behind to end up winning the game with a score of 6-5.
The game began much like the home match on Friday trailing by 2 goals with 6 minutes played in the first quarter. Once again the Mustangs woke up to put the game within reach with a goal from Velázquez with the clock showing 9:45 in the first quarter.
In a second quarter dominated by both defenses, Chicago tied the game with a goal from Ortiz (10:44); the only goal scored in the second quarter.
Chicago came back from the half time break with the intention to put away the game but in an unusual fashion the offence was erratic and the Kings took advantage and with 3 unanswered goals taking a 5-3 to begin the fourth quarter.
Staring down a 3 goal deficit, the Mustangs showed character and tempo corralling the Kings into their own zone and goals from Hernández (2), Camarena and Ortega flipped the scoreboard. Cincinnati worked tirelessly to get back into the game using the sixth attacker in the last two minutes of the match but fell short.
"It was a difficult match because we were the visiting team. We stayed in the game and never gave up. We stuck together and played with our hearts to obtain this victory", said Hernández after the game.
The Mustangs remain in second place of the central division, one game behind Dallas.
The Chicago Mustangs will play their next game visiting the Illinois Piasa on January 5th at 7:35 PM and will be back at the Grand Sports Arena (Hoffman Estates), to host the Dallas Sidekicks on Sunday January 6th at 6:30 PM.
