Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC will return to league play for the first time in three weeks when the team travels to face the Columbus Crew on Saturday, June 19. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT, Saturday's match will mark the Crew's final game at Historic Crew Stadium - the league's first-ever soccer specific stadium - before beginning play in their new downtown soccer venue, New Crew Stadium.
Set to be broadcast live on WGN-TV, CFFC Live and TUDN 1200 AM, Saturday's match will be the first time the Fire's broadcast team has called a match live from an away venue since March 7, 2020, at Gillette Stadium. Play-by-play commentator Arlo White will make his broadcast debut for the Fire, joining U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer Tony Meola in the booth at Historic Crew Stadium.
Including the game against the Crew, White is scheduled to call four straight matches for Chicago on WGN-TV and CFFC Live. Fire play-by-play commentator Tyler Terens will provide field-level insight for the Club's three consecutive home matches from June 23-July 3. Fans can purchase tickets for the June 23rd and June 26th home matches.
Saturday's game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two sides in 2021. The Fire (1-5-1, 4 points) enter the match with a 26-20-22 all-time regular season record against the defending MLS Cup Champions. The Fire and Columbus met twice in 2020, with Chicago falling 3-0 on the road on Aug. 20, before earning a point in a 2-2 home draw on Sept. 12.
The Crew (3-2-2, 11 points) enter the match sitting in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, holding a 2-0-1 record at home. Prior to the three-week international break, Columbus notched its second straight victory on May 29, defeating Toronto FC 2-1 at Historic Crew Stadium. Midfielder Lucas Zelarayan leads the team in goals scored (three).
