Chicago Fire Soccer In The Community Update

CHICAGO, IL (October 6, 2009) - The Chicago Fire is participating in a series of community events across the Chicagoland area over the next week. Throughout the year, the Chicago Fire participates in hundreds of community events to work with youth, charities and other organizations to promote the game of soccer by advocating wellness, healthy lifestyle choices, physical activities and education.

These events range from local soccer matches and the Chicago Marathon Health and Fitness Expo to the Midwest Wings Soccer Club Fall Classic Tournament and the Octoberfest Tournament.

Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo

Who: Chicago Fire Midfielder, Justin Mapp

When: Friday, October 9; 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Mapp is on site 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM)

Where: McCormick Place Convention Center, North Building, Hall B1, 2301 S. Martin Luther King Dr.

What: Chicago Fire Midfielder Justin Mapp will be at the Volkswagen booth on Friday from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. The Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo annually hosts more than 175 exhibitors featuring the newest designs in running gear and shoes, as well as the latest developments in sports, fitness and nutrition. In addition, the Expo is the home of Participant Packet Pick-Up for all 45,000 marathon runners. Held at Chicago's McCormick Place, the two-day Expo is free and open to the public. When: Saturday, October 10; 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Conde is on site 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM)

Midwest Wings Soccer Club Fall Classic Tournament

Who: Chicago Fire Staff and Obstacle Course

When: Saturday, October 10; 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Where: Gaelic Park, 6119 147th St., Oak Forest

What: Join the Chicago Fire Staff, as they cheer on local soccer teams. This incredible Irish facility will play host to the U12-U19 tournament. The fields are full size in a secure area along the clubhouse and the Stadium Field will be used for several finals. Gaelic Park features a full service Traditional Irish Pub with most of the pub imported from Ireland, a great place to take a break between games. Also, don't forget to test your skills in the Chicago Fire Obstacle course.

Octoberfest Tournament

Who: Chicago Fire Staff and Penalty Kick Inflatable

When: Saturday, October 10; 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Where: Libertyville Township Soccer Complex, 1850 W Winchester Rd., Libertyville

What: Join the Chicago Fire Staff, as they cheer on local soccer teams, in one of Illinois' most premier soccer facility. Plus, test your soccer skills on the Chicago Fire's Penalty Kick inflatable.

25th Annual Fiesta Cultural

Who: Chicago Fire Mascot, Sparky

When: Sunday, October 11; 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM (Sparky is on site 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM)

Where: Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S Goebbert Rd, Arlington Heights

What: Join Sparky this Sunday for an afternoon of food, music and dance at Fiesta Cultural, an annual festival celebrating Latino culture and traditions. Plus, test your soccer skills on the Chicago Fire's Target Shot and Penalty Kick inflatables. Tickets for the event are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children under 10 are free.
