Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, October 6, 2009) - Real Salt Lake (9-11-7 in MLS play) will break up its current 18-day hiatus from Major League Soccer play tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7, when the Claret-and-Cobalt will welcome legendary Mexican side Chivas de Guadalajara for the team's first-ever visit to Utah. Kickoff for RSL's second international friendly of the 2009 season at Rio Tinto Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. MT, with the match being aired live on Fox Soccer Channel and RSL's official radio partners - KALL 700 Sports (English) and Ke Buena 1600-AM (Spanish). The popular Carnival Real pre-game festival will begin the festivities at 5:00 p.m. MT, with stadium gates opening an hour later at 6:00 p.m. Media members are reminded that RSL 2009 Season Credentials and MLS "All Stadium" credentials will be honored for Wednesday's contest, while Media Will Call at the stadium's west side Box Office will open at 5:00 p.m. for those who have applied for single-game credentials and parking passes.
Tickets for tomorrow's contest are still available and begin at $20, with group and RSL Season Ticket Holder discounts available in every section of Rio Tinto Stadium. Advance purchase is encouraged online at www.RioTintoStadium.com, as prices will increase $10 per ticket, regardless of location, for all seats purchased on gameday. For more information, please contact the RSL Ticketing Department at 801-727-2700.
Wednesday's international friendly against Chivas de Guadalajara will mark the 13th such match in Real Salt Lake's five-year history, but just the second this season, following RSL's 1-0 XanGo Cup 2009 victory over Chivas' "Super Clasico" rivals, Club Am=E9rica. The triumph over Club Am=E9rica, which came on the strength of a 54th minute tally by MF Javier Morales, pushed RSL's all-time record against international opposition to 6-4-2 mark (16 GF / 15 GA), a group that includes club and national team competitors spanning four continents. CD Guadalajara is the fourth Mexican opponent to visit the Beehive State to take on Real Salt Lake, joining Monarcas Morelia (2005), Club Santos Laguna (2008), U.A.N.L. Tigres (2008), and Club Am=E9rica.
