Chicago Fire Head to the Rose City to Challenge Portland Timbers

The Chicago Fire (6-11-4, 22 points) hit the road to take on the Portland Timbers (9-8-6, 33 points) at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. on Friday, Aug. 7 at 10 p.m. CT (UniMas/ESPN Deportes 97.5 FM).

This is the only meeting between the two sides this season. The Timbers enter the match after a 0-0 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

CHICAGO FIRE vs. PORTLAND TIMBERS

- The Men in Red are 0-3-2 all-time against the Timbers in MLS play, including a 0-2-1 record in matches played in the Rose City.

- Fire defender Lovel Palmer will face his former club on Sunday. Traded to the Timbers from the Houston Dynamo on July 21, 2011, Palmer made 34 appearances and tallied one assist over the course of two seasons before joining Real Salt Lake in 2013.

- Fire Homegrown midfielder Harry Shipp made his professional debut at Providence Park on March 16, 2014 when he started against the Timbers, becoming the first Homegrown player in Fire history to appear in a first team match.

CHICAGO FIRE TAKE ON PHILADELPHIA UNION IN LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP SEMIFINAL ON AUG. 12

The Chicago Fire continue their quest for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when they travel to face fellow MLS side Philadelphia Union in the semifinal round at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11, the match has been moved to Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Fire will cover the cost of match tickets for traveling supporters who use the link found here.

Since 1998, the Fire have compiled a 39-12-4 record in Open Cup play, including a 26-1-1 record in matches played in the state of Illinois, reaching the semifinal round twelve times and the final six times. The Fire previously hoisted the coveted Dewar Trophy four times, in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006.
