Chicago Fire FC News Release
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Major League Soccer today announced that Chicago Fire defender Andre Reynolds II has been added to the roster for the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer.
The MLS Homegrown Team, which will be coached by Orlando City SC Academy Director Marcelo Neveleff, features some of the league's most accomplished young stars who will take on Chivas de Guadalajara's U-20 club on Tuesday, July 30 at 4:00 p.m. CT (TUDN / Twitter) at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.
With the announcement, Reynolds II, 18, has earned his first Homegrown Game selection in his rookie season. Reynolds II - the 12th Homegrown Player signing in Club history - joined the Fire's First Team on Jan. 25, 2019 after spending four seasons (2015-18) in the Club's Academy. The defender made his professional debut with the Fire on Tuesday, July 23, starting and playing 58 minutes against LIGA MX side Cruz Azul in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup. On the international stage, Reynolds II has appeared for the U.S. at numerous levels, most recently participating in the U-19 U.S. Men's National Team camp in Florida in January.
The MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer is part of an exciting night of action at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. As part of a dual-event ticket, fans are able to enjoy both the MLS Homegrown Game, followed by the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by Target at 7:00 p.m. CT. Tickets are available for purchase at: www.MLSsoccer.com/AllStar.
MLS had previously announced that Chicago Fire defender Bastian Schweinsteiger has been named to the Gameday Roster for the 2019 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target. Schweinsteiger was selected to the roster by Orlando City SC and MLS All-Star Head Coach James O'Connor. The MLS All-Stars are scheduled to face 10-time Spanish champions Atlético de Madrid on July 31 at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Fla. The annual summer showcase will kick off at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be televised nationally on FS1 (English) and UniMás (Spanish). This year's match will mark the 16th time that an elite international club has faced the MLS All-Stars.
Joining a list of formidable opponents to participate in the MLS Homegrown Game, Chivas de Guadalajara's U-20 team brings an accomplished track record to the match. The club captured the Liga MX Clausura 2019 U-20 title and features numerous players that have received time with both the Chivas reserve squad and the First Team side that has captured three titles over the previous three years. This is the second time Chivas has participated in the MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer, previously serving as the opponent in the 2017 contest.
