Chicago Blaze set for Re-match vs. Colorado Chill

Chicago Blaze News Release

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze will look to go 2-0 Sunday afternoon when they take on the Colorado Chill. The Blaze opened the 2004 season last Sunday defeating the Chill 84-70. On Friday, the Blaze signed forward Jaysie Chambers (UIC '03). Chambers returned from competing internationally this past Tuesday.

The signing of Chambers may prove critical as the Blaze will be without three of their front court players this weekend. Neither Mfon Udoka (illness), nor Monika Roberts (injured shoulder) will make the trip. Tamika Catchings will also miss Sunday's game due to a prior WNBA commitment. "I cannot put into words the impact of not having both Mfon and Monika," said Blaze General Manager Robert Graham. "To have to play without one of them would be tough enough. Our other players will really have to step up this weekend."

The Blaze will look to create an uptempo game to neutralize the height advantage of the Chill. "We will be a little short-handed this weekend, but we will be ready," said Blaze guard Jamie Redd (Univ. of Washington). "We have to roll with who is here and not get caught up in who is not. We will be OK."

On Friday the Blaze also released guard Casie Lowman (Arkansas State University) and forward Amanda Orsburn (North Central College).

The Chicago Blaze is entering its third season in the NWBL. The Blaze will play a 22-game schedule through March 23 and will play its home games at Merner Fieldhouse located at North Central College in Naperville, IL.

The National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the WNBA who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. The season is played from January through April and the teams include the Birmingham Power, CHICAGO BLAZE, Colorado Chill, Dallas Fury, Houston Stealth, and Springfield Spirit.
