Chicago Blaze Defeat Lubbock Hawks 88-79

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze (7-7) stayed in the playoff hunt Sunday afternoon defeating the Lubbock Hawks 88-79. The Blaze were led by the frontcourt of Ebony Hoffman, Keila Beachem and Latonya Johnson who combined to score 70 of the team's 88 points, grab 33 of the team's 46 rebounds and shoot a combined 23-for-23 from the free throw line. After giving up a 10 point lead in the first half, the Blaze never trailed in the second half, outscoring the Hawks 49-40 and holding them to 29.7% shooting from the floor.

Keila Beachem and Ebony Hoffman both finished the game with double-doubles as Beachem finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Hoffman finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Latonya Johnson finished with 23 points and 7 rebounds.

Jocelyn Penn led the Hawks (9-8) with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Sheryl Swoopes finished with 21 points for the Hawks.

The Blaze will be home next weekend for a home and home against the Dallas Fury and the San Jose Spiders. Both games tip-off at 7:30 pm at Lisle High School.

The NWBL showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. 2005 teams include the Birmingham Power, CHICAGO BLAZE, Colorado Chill, Dallas Fury, Lubbock Hawks, and the San Jose Spiders.
